Nokia 3310, the Iconic Nokia Handset of the 2000s, Expected to Get a Reboot Next Week

Nokia 3310, the Iconic Nokia Handset of the 2000s, Expected to Get a Reboot Next Week

Nokia 3310, one of the iconic phones of early 2000s, will be in the limelight once again next week, as HMD Global - which holds the rights to the Nokia brand on mobile devices - is rumoured to reboot the handset at its February 26 event, on the sidelines of MWC 2017 trade show. Other Nokia phones, including the Nokia P1 flagship Android phone and Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 affordable smartphones are also expected to be on display at the event, but the Nokia 3310 is widely expected to steal their limelight. Reportedly, HMD Global will also announce Nokia 6 global availability details at the MWC 2017 event.

Nokia 3310 Reboot's Price
According to prolific tipster Evan Blass, the Nokia 3310 reboot will be showcased at the event, but there are no details of the device so far. However, it is expected that the Nokia 3310 reboot will be a feature phone, not an Android-based smartphone. The price of the new version of the iconic handset is said to be EUR 59 (roughly Rs. 4,000) which will make it decently priced in the feature phone competition. Fans can buy the Nokia 3310 (the original one) for anywhere between Rs. 1,900 and Rs. 5,000 on eBay India even now.

For many Nokia fans, the Nokia 3310 was one of the most popular feature phones and was considered to be among the sturdiest handsets ever built. The 3310 has also been a favourite of the folks at Nokia, which pranked fans in 2014 by announcing a Nokia 3310 handset with Windows Phone 8 operating software, 41-megapixel PureView camera, 3-inch ClearDiamond WXGA (1280x768 pixels) screen, and other features. The handset was also in our list of most memorable Nokia phones of all time.

Return of the Nokia 3310 is welcome news for any Nokia fan who misses the extremely durable phone, its simple interface, preloaded game Snake II, and easy-to-swap Xpress-on covers. Over the years, fans have kept it alive via efforts such as putting the Nokia 3310 under a hydraulic press and putting a red-hot nickel ball over it.

Nokia 3, Nokia 5 Specifications and Prices
Blass in the Venture Beat report cites a person briefed on HMD Global's plans and claims that the four Nokia phones will be launched at Nokia's MWC 2017 event. He adds that the new Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 smartphone will be Android 7.0 Nougat-based smartphones featuring toned down innards. Blass claims that Nokia 5 will feature a 5.2-inch HD display while packing just 2GB of RAM. The smartphone will feature a 12-megapixel rear camera. The report suggests a price tag of EUR 199 (roughly Rs. 14,000) for the Nokia 5 at launch citing the person briefed about the plans. The Nokia 3, on the other hand, is expected to be unveiled at EUR 149 (roughly Rs. 10,500). Blass also mentions Nokia 6 in the report which may mean that the China-exclusive smartphone may finally see a global unveiling.

Nokia 6 Global Release
The Nokia 6 smartphone has so far been available in China twice and has seen tremendous response there. In its first flash sale, the Nokia 6 smartphone reportedly went out of stock in a minute. In the meanwhile, the Nokia 6 second flash sale saw 1.4 million registrations. The company hasn't confirmed plans but the Nokia 6 is widely rumoured to launch outside China.
